Just wanted to share that the Homeschool FIRST Tech Robotics Team D.R.O.I.D. (Developing Robots of Ingenious Design) won the THINK Award and the 2nd Place INSPIRE Award at the Regional Competition yesterday, which was the largest Regional Competition in the nation!!! D.R.O.I.D. also received the bid to the WORLD ROBOTICS CHAMPIONSHIP in April!!! We are the ONLY San Antonio team advancing to World, and one of only two teams in the entire South Region of Texas who were given a bid to WORLD. We were also the ONLY homeschooling team in the ENTIRE competition from Qualifying Tournaments through Regionals. We hope to meet some homeschooling teams at WORLD.

The team was composed of Jaren Carrasco, Julianna Girard, Julia Graham, Carleigh Lutz, Colten Lutz, Conner Lutz, John Ramirez, & Mari Ramirez.

We led in First Place all day, finishing in first at the end of the qualifying matches, despite HUGE Technical difficulites! The kids were determined...composed...collected.....I was just mesmorized watching them in action. They did not need any coaches or mentors, as we became spectators watching them in action.....they were awesome!! They have all worked sooo hard for this and they truly earned it!! More importantly, they would have made any homeschooler proud with their demeanor, sportsmanship, and perseverance. I could not have been prouder to be associated with them as a team, as homeschoolers, and as Christians!!

Just to give you some insight:   INSPIRE AWARD is the most prestigious award given. "It is given to the team that truly embodied the "challenge" of FTC program....as having best represented a 'role model' FIRST Tech Challenge team. This team is a top contender for all other judging categories and is a strong competitor on the field. The INSPIRE Award winner is an inspiration to other teams, acting with Gracious Professionalism both on and off the playing field. This team understands how to communicate their experiences and knowledge to other teams, sponsors, and judges."

THINK AWARD is given to "the team that best reflects the "journey" the team took as they experienced the engineering process during build season. The Engineering Notebook is the key reference for judges to help identify the most deserving team. The team's notebook should focus on the design and build stage of the team's robot.....including moments when things weren't going as planned....They must demonstrate that they have a clear understanding of the engineering design process."

We are so proud of them and just wanted to share their awesome accomplishments!!!! Missi Lutz_

 Scout Troop 58 -Accepting Enrollment

Boy Scout Troop 58 is looking for a few good men!

Scouts are trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind,
obedient, cheerful, thrifty, brave, clean and reverent... and the
Eagle rank looks good on a resume for a reason.  The Boy Scout rank
advancement program teaches leadership development and some great
skills along the way.  Troop 58 is an active troop going on campouts
ten times a year and weekly troop meetings.  Almost all of the dads
and quite a few moms are very involved in this Boy Scout troop.
Moms, you'll be amazed at how much school worthy stuff you can find
in the scout program.  We meet at the Bulverde United Methodist
Church, just south of the Cibolo Creek and just north of Borgfeld
Road on Highway 281 about 7 miles north of Loop 1604.  Come check us
out and see what you think!
